Winter Fun in The Highlands

Whether you’re visiting the Highlands as a family, couple or solo trip, there is plenty for you to see and explore during this wonderful month of December. From Classical Christmas concerts to live plays at the Eden Court theatre. There is plenty of fun for everyone this Christmas.
From the calendar we’ve created you’ll be able to pick and choose which events you’d like to experience and know which dates to book your stay with us.
Luckily most of these events are just a half an hour drive from the guest house, so if you get tired of sightseeing and crave something a bit more festive you can spend the day in Inverness where you could squeeze in a few of these experiences or just simply head over just in time for a play or music event.
For some of the events, which are a little further away, you could plan a trip to include some other activities or places you could see along the way.

Christmas Markets:

Make sure to stop by our Christmas market this December and pick up something nice for your family back home or as a souvenir to remember your trip.

Inverness Farmers market – 4th and 18th Dec

Stalls of local produce (meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, cheese, home baking) in the Eastgate pedestrian area of Inverness city centre.

Art:

As you’re wandering around the city of Inverness, pop in our art galleries showcasing some of the most unique works of local artists. And if you’ve left your Christmas shopping to the last minute, you might find something here.

Christmas Mixed Exhibition 1st Oct – 24th Dec, Featuring paintings, jewellery and crafts by a range of our artists and all our festive favourites.

Christmas Art Exhibition 11th Dec, Art exhibition by local artists from Highland Amateur Artists. All commission from sales to go to RASASH and The Clay Studio.

Poetry open mic night 3rd 10th 17th Dec, Wonderful evenings of poetry and performances every Friday night.

Live Theatre & Concerts:

Experience a whole lot of magic this Christmas at our Theater in Inverness. From well-known live plays to Classical Music Concerts. Just the theatre itself is beautiful to walk around

Music:

The music scene in December is livelier than ever! From live bands to Ceilidhs there is plenty for you to experience and dance to! If you’re new to Scotland, we would recommend going to a Ceilidgh. It’s a great way to immerse yourself in the Scottish culture and dance along with the locals. Don’t worry if you don’t know the moves, they’ll teach you.

Schiehallion- Dec 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd

Hailing from Inverness the capital city of the Scottish Highlands Schiehallion are a Scottish Folk/Ceilidh band.

Super Ceilidh with Iain Joseph MacDonald & Erik Spence – Dec 4th, 11th, 18th,

Iain Macdonald and Erik Spence along with a range of guests host the longest-running Ceilidh in Scotland every Saturday from 2.30 pm – 4.30 pm at Hoots!

Craig Robertson – Late Night at Hoots – Dec 19th, A singer-songwriter from the highlands of Scotland. Focusing on his performance over the years he really has a unique and professional performance. Craig has created a set list of well known songs to suit all tastes!

Mànran & Blazin’ Fiddles live at Strathpeffer Pavilion – Dec 28th, Join two of Scotland’s most celebrated folks bands with Mànran & Blazin’ Fiddles in concert at the Strathpeffer Pavilion.

If you’ve decided to embark on a winter adventure as a family, there is plenty for you and your little ones to see and experience. Whether you’d like a relaxing evening at the theatre or a fun trip to see Reindeer, we’ve got it covered.

Blast off!   22nd – 24th Dec, This one is a little further away, but if you wanted to go to Aviemore for the day and see the mountains this could be a nice addition to the day as a little entertainer for your little ones “This show is interactive, visual theatre filled with songs, sounds and tastes. A chance to experience a touch of Christmas magic with your little ones.”

Santa’s Highland Storytime 11th– 12th, 18th – 19th Dec, Add a festive touch to your Highland Wildlife Park visit this winter by meeting Santa and our herd of forest reindeer!

Most visitors to the Highlands don’t know about the magic it holds over winter time. Come see our beautiful North this winter. If you’re coming from the central part of Scotland, even the drive up to the highlands holds amazing views of the snowy mountains and forests. And after a day full of fun and being out in the cold, you’ll be able to come back to our guest house and sit by the fire with a Christmas film and a hot chocolate.
