About Us

Hi there! We’re Gunta and Kristine…

We are the friendly mother-daughter duo that run Beechwood Lodge B&B.

We’re the warm faces that’ll be greeting you at the door, welcoming you to our little piece of Highland paradise. We share our home with our 2 well behaved dogs Sasha & Roxy, and our old, cat Lola.

We love to spend time with amazing people from all over the world, enjoying great conversations, going for long walks in the nearby forest by the river and having a good laugh!

What you can expect

Yes, it’s true what they say. We live in one of the most amazing places on the earth! We are in Alness, the middle of nowhere and yet everything. We have wide open spaces, tranquil landscapes with peace and quiet that calms the soul, but we are also ideally situated right on the North Coast 500 (NC500), Scotland’s Route 66, only 20 miles (30 min drive) away from Inverness. From us, you can travel to the very North to visit John O’Groats, Wick, or Thurso, South to search for Nessie at Loch Ness or journey to the almost tropical West Coast. So whether you’re venturing afar or stepping out our back garden for a walk by the river, you’ll be truly surprised of how much there is to see at Beechwood Lodge.

You can book with us to enjoy everything from an adventure-filled weekend to a relaxing staycation allowing you to take that well-needed break from everyday life. All rooms are situated on the first floor with premium beddings for a good night’s sleep with beautiful views to Scottish fields and woods for your peace of mind. Or stay up with a “wee dram” (or another of your preferred tipple) to take in the awe-inspiring starlit Highland nights sky, rarely scene in built up areas.

The garden to the rear of the house faces south to catch the sun and has a small natural burn (that’s Scottish for stream) running through it. Hence, we feel we can offer you an extremely quiet and peaceful place to relax after a hard day in the hills, exploring or whatever else takes your fancy. Beechwood Lodge really does have it all if you’re looking for that authentic Highland getaway experience.

Things to do

Everything you’d expect to find on a Scottish Highland getaway is at your fingertips when you stay with us at Beechwood Lodge. The nearest town is Alness, just 3 miles away. Here you will find a range of shops, pubs, and restaurants to enjoy. Other towns nearby are Dingwall, Invergordon, Tain, Dornoch, Strathpeffer, Muir of Ord, Beauly and of course the gateway to the highlands itself, Inverness. All these beautiful places offer something unique to explore.

Things to do include…

  • Whisky tours
  • Golfing getaways, (the 15th oldest golf course in the World also just so happens to be down the road)
  • Loch Ness
  • The North Coast 500
  • Hiking and biking
  • And so much more…

Hiker’s paradise

Scotland, and in particular the Highlands, offers probably the best walking available around the world. There’s everything from low level strolls by lochs and rivers, to the Mountains and in particular the Munro’s, the 3000-foot mountains of which there are 284. Surely enough choice for any avid hiker, as well just about everything in between for all ages and abilities.

Scotland is a bit different. Access to the hills is, by tradition, allowed on most uncultivated upland areas. This makes hill walking here somewhat unique. For a start, you will find very few footpaths marked on Ordnance Survey maps, and far fewer signposted on the ground. Because walkers are not forced to follow restricted routes on exactly the same path, you will often find untouched hillsides to roam, rather than beaten tracks, so you can take your time and make your own path.

From our experience, most people come to love the freedom this gives you. Because you have the choice of walking in groups or spreading out and having the whole place to yourself. But don’t worry, if you’re not that confident navigating your own way round our guided walking service can help.

Where are we exactly?

Ardross is located about 20 miles north of the Highland capital, Inverness, and is in the county of Easter Ross. It lies on the B9176 road that runs between the town of Alness on the Cromarty Firth and the village of Bonar Bridge on the Dornoch Firth. This road is signposted as the “Moray Firth Tourist Route” and is a scenic alternative to the A9 for those travelling up or down the East coast of Scotland. If you fancy taking on the NC500 and asking yourself “where should I stay along the North Coast 500?”, we are ideally situated en route to break up the journey. This road is also on the most common Lands’ End to John O Groats route, making us a convenient stopover for those travelling End to End.

Our house is situated a few hundred metres off the main road, along a short single-track road. This little road serves to provide access to our house, and just four others beyond us, so there is virtually no through traffic. To both the front and rear of us are open fields, with views over adjoining farmland to some of the hills around us. We are far enough off the main road, so your peace is undisturbed by any traffic noise.

So if you’re looking for that Highland staycation, weekend getaway or simply a warm bed for the night along your journey, our home “Beechwood Lodge” is opened for nice and friendly people to stay with us and enjoy our hospitality.
